Alert! Parking Ticket Violation Scam Evolves/Continues

The Franklin County Municipal Court Judges and the Franklin County Municipal Clerk Lori Tyack are advising residents about an evolving scam

A new scam being sent via text message shows what appears to be a legitimate notice about an unpaid parking violation that must paid or provides an alleged court date for when the person must appear.

This is fraudulent and was not issued by the Franklin County Municipal Court or the Franklin County Municipal Court Clerk. It is another evolution of a previous scam that has been enhanced to look more legitimate.

The notice lists the name of a judge, who is not a Municipal Court Judge. It also includes a fake initial court appearance with the court’s actual address.

Additionally, it includes a fake seal of Ohio and includes a QR code for people to pay immediately.

Neither the Court nor the Franklin County Municipal Court Clerk sends text messages notifying people about fines. Official notifications are sent through the U.S. mail.

Please do not come to the courthouse for a court appearance unless you have a scheduled hearing.

Finally, please report this scam or any similar scam notices you receive in the future to your local law enforcement agency.
