New Scam Involving GPS Monitoring

August 4, 2025 | Franklin County Sheriff's Office Issues Warning on GPS Scam August 11, 2025 - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning about a new scam affecting Franklin County families; fraudsters claiming to be Sheriff's deputies claim defendants can have court-ordered GPS monitoring set up early, for a hefty fee. Don't be fooled. Early setup of GPS monitoring is not available, and court costs are only payable through the Franklin County Municipal Clerk's Office. Furthermore, fines are only established by a judge or magistrate and would be included in any sentencing documentation. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office asks that anyone affected by this scam call their local law enforcement. This scam isn't isolated to Central Ohio alone. Several other Sheriff's Offices in the country have also warned their residents.
